Spravato® & Ketamine Therapy

Advanced, Rapid-Acting Treatment Options for Depression That Hasn’t Responded to Traditional Care

When traditional antidepressants haven’t been enough — there’s another way the brain can heal.

When traditional antidepressants haven’t provided enough relief, Spravato® and ketamine therapy may offer another option. These treatments work differently from standard antidepressants by targeting the brain’s glutamate system, which is involved in mood regulation and neuroplasticity. For some patients, this different pathway can help when other treatments have not.

✦  Coming Soon

Spravato and ketamine therapy are expected to launch soon at Goldstone Psychiatry & Neuromodulation Center. Our program is being developed with a strong focus on safety, precision, and personalized psychiatric care. Patients can join the notification list or schedule an evaluation in advance.

How They Work

Unlike traditional antidepressants that target serotonin or dopamine, Spravato and ketamine affect the brain’s glutamate system. These treatments may help improve mood, emotional flexibility, and the brain’s ability to form new neural connections.

Spravato esketamine

iSpravato (Esketamine)

Spravato is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression. It is administered only in certified healthcare settings under medical supervision because patients must be monitored for potential side effects such as sedation, dissociation, or changes in blood pressure. Treatment sessions typically include a two-hour observation period after dosing.

What to Expect During Treatment

Patients receive Spravato in a calm, private setting with blood pressure monitoring before and after treatment. Most treatment plans begin with twice-weekly sessions, later tapering based on response and symptom improvement. Transportation home is required, as patients cannot drive until the following day.

iKetamine Therapy

Ketamine therapy may be offered through several routes, including intranasal, IV infusion, intramuscular injection, or subcutaneous administration. While ketamine has shown promising antidepressant effects, these psychiatric uses are generally considered off-label and are often self-pay.

Tms vs ketamine

Spravato vs. Ketamine

Spravato is FDA-approved for specific depression indications and is commonly covered by insurance. Ketamine therapy offers more flexibility in delivery methods but is typically considered off-label and may not be covered. The right option depends on a patient’s diagnosis, treatment history, goals, and insurance coverage.

Who May Be a Good Candidate?

Spravato or ketamine therapy may be considered for adults experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression
  • Persistent depressive symptoms despite medication
  • Medication intolerance
  • Significant functional impairment from depression
  • A need for faster-acting treatment options

Common Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and may include dizziness, nausea, sedation, dissociation, headache, or temporary increases in blood pressure. Because of these risks, careful screening and medical monitoring are essential.

Insurance Coverage

Spravato is often covered by commercial insurance and Medicare for qualifying patients with treatment-resistant depression, though prior authorization is usually required. Ketamine therapy is generally not covered because it is considered off-label for psychiatric use.

Our Safety-First Approach

At Goldstone Psychiatry & Neuromodulation Center, these treatments are provided within a structured, physician-led care model. Our approach includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medical screening, symptom tracking, and coordination with broader treatment plans such as medication management and therapy.

Common Questions

Can I drive after treatment?

No. Patients must arrange transportation home with a responsible adult and avoid driving until the next day after a restful night’s sleep.

Spravato is often covered for qualifying patients, while ketamine therapy is usually self-pay.

Some patients notice improvement within hours or days, while others improve gradually over several treatments.

Explore Advanced Treatment Options

If depression has continued despite therapy, medication, or repeated treatment attempts, Spravato or ketamine therapy may be worth exploring. A consultation can help determine whether these treatments, TMS or another advanced option may be right for your needs.
